Me in a Nutshell
For me, great work comes down to two things: loving the process and working with good people.

Hi, I’m Steven.
I’m a designer, husband, and dad living in the wonderfully mossy Portland, OR. I grew up in the foothills of the Appalachians in South Carolina, studied design at SCAD (BFA + MA), and then made the move to New York. After 10 busy years, I headed to Charlotte for a few years to spend time with family, eventually ending up here in the Pacific Northwest.
Outside of design, I’m happiest planting a new rare fern in my garden, finding salamanders under a log on a trail, or just hanging out with my wife Emily Grace, our daughter Matilda, three snuggly cats (Bishop, Ernest, Merlin), and our fluffy pup Francis.
I am a drummer at heart, but I’m obsessed with piano; I prefer a good root beer over almost any other drink, and Fifth Element is the best movie of all time.
behind the curtain
I’m a designer, drummer, root beer enthusiast, and proud cat (and human) dad, building thoughtful brands and systems.

Loving the craft
I still get a kick out of the small stuff. A grid that clicks, the exact right shade, a wordmark that finally sits still. Curiosity plus care is how work ends up human instead of manufactured.
Good people
Every project I've loved started with trust. Give me an open, honest room over a shiny brief any day. That's where the best ideas actually show up.
A full life
Rare ferns, salamanders under logs, piano keys, family hikes. The life outside the work is what keeps the work interesting, and I bring all of it back to the desk.
